Honoring a Hero: Chief Kenny Yeakley Laid to Rest

Martinsburg, WV — August 18, 2025

In a powerful display of unity, reverence, and love, the Bedington Volunteer Fire Department and Westphal Hose Company 5, alongside family, friends, and fellow patriots, gathered today to celebrate the extraordinary life of former Fire Chief Kenny Yeakley. With sirens silent and flags lowered, the community paid final tribute to a man whose legacy of service, faith, and compassion will echo for generations.

Kenny was escorted home to be with his Lord and Savior—his final journey marked by solemn dignity and heartfelt remembrance. The ceremony was not merely a farewell, but a celebration of a life lived with purpose, honor, and unwavering devotion to others.

A proud Veteran of the United States Armed Forces, Kenny embodied the spirit of duty in every facet of his life. As a husband, father, brother, uncle, and mentor, he poured himself into the lives of those around him—lifting others up, guiding them through hardship, and always answering the call.

The firehouse bell tolled one final time in his honor, followed by a ceremonial last ride aboard Engine 5, adorned in black bunting and flanked by saluting firefighters. Taps rang out across the hills, and family and friends stood in solemn silence, united in grief and gratitude.

Kenny Yeakley was a blessing to all who crossed his path—a man of faith, integrity, and quiet strength. His legacy is etched into the very foundation of the departments he served, the lives he saved, and the hearts he touched.

As Martinsburg mourns the loss of one of its finest, it also celebrates the enduring light he leaves behind. May we all strive to live with the same courage, humility, and love that defined Kenny’s remarkable journey.
