| Placement and Use Guidelines
Maintain Distance: Keep the space heater at least three feet away (one meter) from anything that can burn, including furniture, curtains, bedding, clothing, and papers.
Stable Surfaces: Always place the heater on a flat, level, and non-flammable surface, such as the floor, not on carpets, furniture, or countertops.
Plug Directly into Outlet: Plug the heater directly into a wall outlet. Never use an extension cord or power strip, as they can overheat and cause a fire.
Avoid Unattended Use: Turn the heater off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Never leave it running while unattended.
Keep Away from Water: Do not use electric heaters near water, such as in bathrooms or kitchens, unless the unit is specifically designed and certified for that purpose with an ALCI plug.
Supervise Children and Pets: Establish a 3-foot "kid-free zone" around the heater, as surfaces can become very hot and cause burns.
Proper Use Only: Space heaters are for supplemental heat; never use them to warm bedding, dry clothing, or thaw pipes.
Do Not Cover: Never cover the heater or place objects on top of it, as this can lead to overheating and fire risk.
Install Detectors: Ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas, and test them monthly. |
